Mary Joan Schimmel

Funeral services for Mary Joan Schimmel, 76, Eudora will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence, KS. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. She died Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Medicalodges Eudora.

She was born April 15, 1941 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Ralph and Mabel (Kimball) Legan.

Mary was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence.

She married Raymond Charles Schimmel on November 8, 1967 in Lawrence, KS. He preceded her in death September 24, 2010.

Survivors include two daughters, Rose Mary Schimmel, Lawrence, Rhonda Miller and her husband, Russell, Topeka; one son, Ralph Schimmel, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Bella, Miranda and Katie Schimmel and two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Cain. She was also preceded in death by one son, Randy Schimmel.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Penn House, both of Lawrence or Lecompton United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    Mary was the best bus driver I ever had. I loved her dearly. She will always have a special place in my heart. My condolences to her family.

    I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I knew her from when I spent several years at Medical Lodge caring for my parents. She was a kind, loving, very special woman that touched my heart as well as the hearts of those who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Ralph.
