Mark Alan Wilson, of Lawrence, Kansas unexpectantly left his home here and went to heaven on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. He was born May 24, 1957 in Escondido, California.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Anne Lange Wilson; his children, Lyle Edward Wilson; Cassandra Joyce Elizabeth Sparks; and J.A. Victor Wilson. He is survived also by seven grandchildren, his sister Karla Gutel, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in Christ and many other friends.
He is proceeded in death by his mother Betty Wilson, sister Sharon, brother Timothy, and niece Taryn.
Mark enjoyed life to the fullest and found enjoyment in whatever he was doing. Anyone who knew him knew that he loved baseball. He enjoyed umpiring games and was an avid Dodger fan. He was also an accountant, credentialed minister, school bus driver, husband, father, uncle, grandpa, foster parent, truck driver and devoted friend. Mark did not meet a stranger and finding ways to help people was his passion. Whether he was helping celebrate a child’s birthday, offering words of encouragement to a friend over lunch, sewing a quilt for a new baby, or driving by to say hello during these COVID months, giving from his heart became his life.
Mark’s body will be available for viewing, Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 11:00 am ~ 7:00 pm at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Please be aware that due to COVID-19 and safety precautions, only 45 people are allowed inside the mortuary at one time and social distancing and masks are required. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery. With social distancing in place, and masks being required, family and friends are welcome to stand near the graveside or listen to the service from their vehicles on the radio station 89.7 FM provided by Warren-McElwain Mortuary
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s name to Vintage Church of Lawrence or Family Promise of Lawrence and may be sent care of the mortuary, 120 W 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
I loved Mark and was glad to have him as my brother. His death leaves a hole in my life. I will miss the phone calls, text messages, and Facebook interactions with him. I look forward to the day when we meet again in heaven. My love and prayers are with Patti, Lyle, Cassie, and Victor. May God bring his family love, comfort, and peace.

My sincere sympathies to Patti and and Mark’s children as well as all of his family. Mark was a kind, fun loving soul. We attended Cerritos Assembly many years together. Good memories! What an incredible reunion is coming!
Patti- so sorry for your loss. The swiftness of life is breathtaking and the suddenness of Mark’s passing has shocked everyone, we your friends and family , will be your rock.

I loved seeing Mark at the gym pushing himself to continue to improve. He always had a smile and always said hello. He will be greatly missed!

My condolences to you all. Mark was inspiring,funny, kind, loved god and his country. Most of all he lived life and loved his family. He will be missed. He’s must surely an angel in heaven.
