Celebration of life services for Marilyn Joan Dabney Davis Benedict, 77, Lawrence formerly of Bloomington, Illinois will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Christ Community Church in Lawrence. Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in McLean, Illinois. She died January 9, 2010 at Brandon Woods at Arbor, in Lawrence, KS.
Marilyn was born March 20, 1932 in Springfield, Illinois. She was the daughter of Robert and Evelyn Dabney. She graduated from Canton High School and was employed by International Harvester. She married Roger V. Davis. They had two sons, Thomas and John. She loved to travel, visiting Ireland, Scotland, the Caribbean and Mexico. Marilyn was a member of the Ambassador Club of Canton’s Chamber of Commerce. She was the editor of the Canton Sentinel for ten years and was the PR representative for Canton Bank. A Lifetime Million Dollar Seller, Marilyn worked for Weaver’s & Associates and Ray Root for a total of 25 years. She was an avid golfer, Wee Ma Tuc Club Champion with a 3 handicap, could drive a golf ball 292 yards and played at St. Andrews course in Scotland. She loved dancing and being with great friends. She married Charles H. Benedict on August 10, 1984 at Eastview Christian Church, Bloomington, Illinois.
She entered LeRoy Manor, LeRoy, Il, February 5, 2003 and was transferred in 2007 to Brandon Woods, Lawrence, KS.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Chuck Benedict, formerly of Bloomington, Il, now residing in Lawrence, KS; son, Thomas and wife, Noreen Davis, grandsons, Dylan, Connor, and Owen Davis of Springfield, Illinois; son, John A. and wife Maureen Davis of Bloomington, Illinois; her sisters, Donna and husband, Dick Scholfield of Springfield, Sally Weiskopf of Springfield, Il, Linda Gaydos, Nevada City, California; her stepdaughter, Cindy and husband, Pastor Jeff Barclay of Lawrence, KS; her step grandchildren, Sarah LaDuke, Noah and wife, Sarah, Barclay, Micah and wife Adrienne, Joshua Barclay, Moriah Barclay, and Bethany Barclay, step great-grandchildren, Finley and Cohen LaDuke all from Lawrence, KS; her stepson, Charles Douglas Benedict and wife Magdalene, step-grandchildren, Ciana, Elena, and Jason all from Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Dabney.
Family will greet friends a half hour prior to the service and following the service at the church on Tuesday.
The family suggests memorial contributions in her name to Christ Community Church or Brandon Woods, Arbor and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
