Margaret Kathleen “Katie” Coleman, beloved daughter of Douglas M. and Mary Jo Coleman, was born on August 25, 1974, in Lawrence, KS. Katie tragically passed away on March 3, 2024. She is survived by her partner Chris Stergos of Tonganoxie, KS, siblings Liz Brenner (Richard), Lawrence, KS, Mike Coleman (Sarah), Overland Park, KS, Susan Pederson (Rick) Aubrey, TX, Andy Coleman (Shea) Dothan, Al, Nancy Roe (Doug), Little Rock, AR, and Chris Coleman (Joy), Lawrence, KS. She was adored by her 17 nieces and nephews.
Katie attended Lawrence High School and graduated in 1992. She furthered her education at the University of Kansas, where she studied Humanities and Anthropology.
She was a successful leader at Ad Astra Information Systems. Katie’s people and project management responsibilities allowed her to be a dynamic influencer and manager. In addition to her professional endeavors, she also dedicated her time and outreach to various charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the VFW, Corporate Challenge and LINK Kitchen.
Katie had a zest for life and enjoyed exploring new places, traveling to different countries, and attending live sporting events and concerts. She loved playing weekly trivia and hosted her family’s annual Christmas Eve Trivia. She was a competitor who you wanted on your team. When at home she enjoyed baking, caring for her dog Cash, watching TV and sharing humorous TikToks.
She was known for her adventurous spirit and her passion for discovering new things. Sadly, Katie’s life ended too soon. And while Katie as in all things was doing what she loved, her death has left a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She is remembered for her courage, her kindness, generosity, and her willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Katie’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and colleagues. She will be missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
A visitation and family eulogy is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. ~ 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence, KS, with a graveside immediately following at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Lawrence, KS.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc. @ KSDS.org

I’m so sorry to the Coleman family that we lost a really good person way too soon. I worked with Katie at Lawrence Pizza Company that Chris owned and I was always happy when Katie worked with me. She was always smiling and fun even though we were working very hard! I have fond memories of her. May she rest in peace. Prayers for you all. Shari Gerling

Sending love and prayers to the entire Coleman family. Katie was a part of our lives through grade and Jr high schools. I remember her and Denise making chocolate chip cookie dough and just eating the dough or their trips to Lawrence Pizza Shoppe to get a salad with their special dressing. She will ever be missed by friends and family.
