Lorna Jean Brown

A visitation for Lorna Jean Brown, 86, Lawrence, KS will be held 6:00 p.m. ~ 8:00p.m., Friday, August 11, 2023, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W 13th St Lawrence, KS 66044.

A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Maple Grove Cemetery, 1710 N 3rd St in Lawrence, KS.

Lorna passed away Monday, July 31, 2023, at her residence in Lawrence, KS with family at her side.

Lorna was born February 7, 1937, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Monroe and Thelma (Mumford) White.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, son, Marlon Lewis, son Michael Lewis, sister Beatrice Fowler, sister Florene Fowler, and sister Vera Reynolds.

Lorna is survived by her children, a son Dwane Lewis of Lawrence, Kansas, daughter, Sonnja Blevins of Grandview, Missouri and her children, Andrew Blevins and Austin and Aydrian Gray, Stacy Guerrier of Oakland, California, Shann Ali and her husband Mikal Ali of Charlotte, North Carolina and Shannโ€™s children John F. Cheatem, Lanai Sylvain, Rachel Cheatem, and Rebecca Cheatem-Kantarevic and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She loved God with everything in her. She was a prayer warrior who prayed relentlessly for her loved ones and for all humanity to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. It was important to her to share the message of Gods great love and salvation anyone she came in contact with. Her faith in God was strong and that faith kept her for 86 years, but now God has called his faithful servant home.

2 Timothy 4:7 says, โ€œ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

We that remain are better for having been touched by her life and we honor and celebrate the example of godliness and love that she so faithfully demonstrated. She truly let her light shine and she will never be forgotten.

The family suggests memorials and flowers be sent in Lorna’s name in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Lawrence Chapel.

My Dear Aunty Bump! I’m so sorry I did not get a chance to visit you as we planned. I miss and love you much. I thank you for being my pen pal and always taking time to either write or call me. I loved to read my letters and catch up with all you had going on, especially during football season. Thank you for all of your love, encouragement (especially in telling me too keep in contact with our family and how important it is). Thanks for your kinds words, always lifting my spirit and wanting to know how I was doing over the years, and sharing all of your knowledge of our family and ancestors. Granny, I love you so much. I remember some of the most exciting events of my childhood life was when our family packed up in the car and traveled from Des Moines, IA to come visit you. I think you would be surprised by how many moments I remember, being in your house, the car you drove, and even the times you came to our house to visit. The thing that stands out to me the most is seeing the unbreakable bond you had with your children. I remember being a child and playing around the house while my mom, your youngest daughter Shann sat on the phone with you catching up on life. I’m 37 now and I know that NEVER stopped between the two of you. You were a powerhouse of a woman, Granny…and you leave behind an incredible legacy in the lives of your family, and all those who knew you. Love love love you! Heaven gets to enjoy you now.

To: my beautiful daughter-in-law, Shann, and the family. Bump was one of a kind. I actually will never forget when she came to the house with Mr. Brown waiting to hear a decision about her daughter, Shann getting married to my son Mikal. (Both still in Lawrence high school.) Bump sat quietly as Mikal proposed to Shannโ€ฆwhen Shann said, โ€œ Iโ€™m only 16, thatโ€™s too young.โ€ Bump and I laughed so hard. Iโ€™ll never forget that beautiful laugh; soft, but sincere. She will be missed, but she can be proud of the legacy that she left with her children and for all humanity. May the peace and blessings of Almighty Allah forever be up on her and her family. And we will always love you bump.๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿคฒ๐Ÿพโ™ฅ๏ธ

  14. Jerri and Berry Armstrong on August 11, 2023 at 7:39 pm

Our deepest condolences family! Jerri, Berry and family wish you comfort and healing. Itโ€™s hard when the pillar of the family is no longer with us. It will get easier. There will come a time when the tears wonโ€™t flow so easily, but is replaced a smile even laughter, when you hear her favorite
song, hear a favorite saying once often used, a look a smile or a gesture from a family member that brings memories running back. Say her name frequently. Our physical bodies may give out but Jehovah has us written down in his Book of Life. One day we will all be pardoned and at that time no one will say โ€œI am Sickโ€. Isaiah 33:24. Thinking of you all and wishing you โ€œpeace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and mental powers by means of Christ Jesusโ€. Phillipians 4:7
Sending our love to the family and those closest to Lorna Jean Brown. LOVE YOU ALL
