Larry James Shoemaker

A Celebration of Life for Larry James Shoemaker, 77, Eudora, KS will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. 

Larry was born on September 7, 1945, in Mulberry, KS, the son of Lionel George and Violet Maxine (Willey) Shoemaker.

He was a Steel Worker for Smith & Loveless.   He was a hard worker and provided for his family.  He was Instilled with good work ethics.  He was very proud of his family and loved them very much.  He enjoyed sports especially the Kansas City Chiefs and KU Jayhawk basketball. 

He married Starr Wilson on August 18, 1966, in Girard, KS. She survives at home.

Other survivors include his children, Kim Shoemaker, Tresa (John) Richardson, siblings, Lionel Eugene Shoemaker, Louis Leon Shoemaker, George (Donna) Shoemaker, Mary Shoemaker, four grandchildren, Tarin Allen, Aaron (Mandy) Shockley, Randy (Amy) Shoemaker, Taylor (Leonard) Kessler, and ten great-grandchildren.   

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Daniel Shoemaker, brother, Danny Shoemaker, two grandchildren, Ashley DaManis, and Brian Shockley.

Memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s name to a Charity of Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    For 35 years we have shared children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We were together at birthday parties, school events, sports activities and family gatherings. Words just can’t express our sorrow at losing a family member.

    My sincerest condolences to all. I have wonderful memories of Larry and growing-up in his home! I will remember his smile and his contagious laugh!
