Larry Allen Nichols

Memorial services for Larry Allen Nichols, 74, Colleyville, Texas will be held in July 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Colleyville, TX. Inurnment will be held at Bluebonnet Cemetery in Colleyville, TX. Larry passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at Bridge Haven in Lawrence, KS.

Larry was born March 17, 1945 in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Jerry P. and Ruth (Fisher) Nichols.

He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a major in Commercial Art from the University of Kansas, June, 1968.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1968 – 1974.

He was a principal owner of the advertising agency, Emerson, Nichols and Bailey and was the Creative Art Director until he retired in 1989. The advertising agency started in Topeka, Kansas then moved to Irving, Texas in 1982. His ‘retirement’ job was managing a stringed instrument repair shop at Brook Mays Music in Dallas, Texas from 1990-2005.

He married Dara Lea Knouse on October 25, 1980, in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2016.

Larry was a talented artist in numerous mediums and his hobbies included building beautiful wood furniture, wood musical instruments, clocks, carved ducks, as well as pen and ink drawings. He had a life-long love of music, and ultimately collected over 12,000 vinyl record albums. Larry had a wonderful sense of humor and a dry wit to match.

Survivors include his sister, Linda and John Mullens, Lawrence; Kansas; son Haynes (Chris) and Anne Nichols, Kansas City; daughter, Kate Nichols Majeskey, Kansas City; four grandchildren, Kenny and Madison Majeskey and Grant and Alec Nichols; nephew, Jeffrey Osborne,; great niece and great nephew, Taylor and Zander Osborne; close friends, Brian and Sami Roop and their two children, Bradley and Stephen; and several cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project or your local Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
