Kirby Dean Ostrander

Graveside services for Kirby Dean Ostrander, 62, Lawrence, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery – Green Burial Section. He passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Maple Heights Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hiawatha, KS.

Kirby was born on April 9, 1958 in Topeka, KS, the son of Charles Dean and Darlene Belle (Lang) Ostrander. He graduated near the top of his class at Highland Park High in 1976. He was in the marching band at the University of Kansas and graduated from there with an Education Degree in 1981.

He was a custodial supervisor at KU Memorial Unions and was more recently a para for Lawrence Public Schools.

Survivors include his sons, Ryan Ostrander, Hiawatha; Ian (Marianna) Ostrander and their son, Evan Ostrander, East Lansing, MI; brother, Troy (Cathy) Ostrander, Kansas City metro area; and nieces, Brooke and Lauren.

Memorial contributions may be made in Kirby’s name to St.John’s Catholic Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    My condolences to the Ostrander family. I enjoyed working with Kirby for many years at the KU Memorial Unions. He was a gentle man with a great intellect. He will be missed.

    I worked with Kirby at the Union for many, many years. Kirby was one of those rare people in life whom you could always count on! I will remember him fondly as a friend and brother in Christ our savior. I pray the Lord be with Kirby’s family in this time of loss.

    Kirby was a very polite gentleman. We shared in many successes working together at The Memorial Union. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Parrish and actively supported the Church through volunteerism. I pray he’s received in Christ’s name.
