Memorial service for Kevin Westerhaus, 60, of Lawrence- formerly of Pratt, KS will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13th at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence. He died February 2, 2018 at his home.
He was born on June 21, 1957 in Parsons, KS the son of Edward Joseph and Annabel Irma (Ellison) Westerhaus.
Kevin was a woodworker for Reuter Organ Company in Lawrence. He loved working with wood and spent his free time planning future projects while listening to the blues. He was computer savvy and was the go to person for many people. His other hobbies included spending time outdoors and traveling around Kansas and Missouri visiting historic sites, but his greatest source of pleasure was spending time with his family. He was also a supporter of political causes and groups that promoted equality, opportunity, and inclusion for all people.
He married Catherine Jo Holser on June 29, 1985 in Pratt, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Patrick Westerhaus, Lawrence, Thomas (Michelle) Westerhaus, McLouth; one grandson, Maddox Westerhaus, McLouth; Siblings, Mike (Rhonda) Pratt, Steve (Rochelle) Pratt, Greg, Andover and Rita (Mark) DeBusk, Wichita, He was also close to several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Catch A Break through the LMH endowment to benefit cancer survivors and the Lawrence chapter of the ACLU and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
He was certainly a champion of the underdog!! Rest In Peace, Kevin. May he live on in you full, pat and Tommy!
