Juanita Lavery

Memorial services for Juanita Elizabeth Lavery, 91, Lawrence, will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Washington Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Douglas Co., Kansas. The inurnment will be held at Washington Creek Cemetery.  She died July 31, 2010 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

She was born June 11, 1919 in Lawrence, Kansas the daughter of Ted F. and Beulah (Courtney) Wright.

Juanita graduated from Liberty Memorial High School and Lawrence Business College. She was a homemaker and Sales Associate for Obers Boy’s Shop.  She was a member of the University Women’s Club, Plymouth Congregational Church and the ACLU.

 She married Carl H. Lavery on March 13, 1940 in Olathe, KS. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Lavery of Eugene, Oregon and two sons, Curtis Lavery of San Francisco, CA and David Lavery of San Antonio, Texas.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Charles Ise Memorial Animal Shelter and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    I was saddened to read of your mother’s death. I used to run into her when we were out shopping and we would chat for awhile. I’m sure we blocked a few aisles! She was a fun lady to know and I know she’ll be missed.
