Jose “Joe” Luis Rodriguez

Graveside service for Jose “Joe” Luis Rodriguez, 83, Lawrence will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. He died April 22, 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Following the service, the family will be hosting a luncheon for friends and family at the Slowride Roadhouse.

Joe was born on June 19, 1937 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Jubencio and Saturnina (Borjon) Rodriguez.

He was a back-room supervisor for Scotch Dry Cleaners for many years. He previously worked at Stokley’s-Van Camp, One Hour Martinizing, and Royal Cleaners. He absolutely loved the Jayhawks, but even more, he adored his grandchildren.

In 1956, he married Juanita Reyes. They later separated.

Survivors include his six sons, Joe Rodriquez, Jr., Miguel F. Rodriquez, Victor A. Rodriquez, Richard T. Rodriquez, Phillip J. Rodriquez (Keri), Allen T. Rodriquez; daughter-in-law, Anna M. Rodriquez; seven grandchildren, Kendra Rodriquez, Michaela Rodriquez, Raquel Rodriquez-McTizic(CJ), Jose L.J. Rodriquez, Kayla Hutchens(Spencer), Grayson Rodriquez, Brooklyn Rodriquez; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Leland, Felicia, Emma, Avery, and Everett; sisters Gloria Ramos, Angelina Gonzalez, and Elena Carrizales. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Inez Young, Maria Rivera, Gilbert Rodriguez, Anna Rodriguez, and Raul Rodriguez.

The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

    Joe was a really nice gentleman! I met him through my grandmother when they worked at Stokely’s while they were on strike. RIP Joe
