John Harvey King

Military graveside services for John Harvey King, 86, of Lawrence will be held at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lawrence, KS. He passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

John Harvey King was born on May 16, 1932 in Tonganoxie, KS, the son of Silas and Flossie (Harvey) King. He preferred to be called Harvey.

Harvey served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1954. For years he was a member of the Leavenworth American Legion.

He was owner/operator of King’s Auto Polishing for more than 30 years. In his leisure time he loved music, enjoyed fishing and working on cars, if you ever needed to know anything about a car from how to keep it running or how to keep it looking good, Harvey was your man, he was his own handyman around the house, there was no project that he didn’t think he couldn’t handle. If you stopped by during the week at 11am you would be watching The Young & the Restless and on the weekends it would be westerns. Harvey was a proud man who meant so much too so many, and will be missed by us all, he loved his family, and we loved him. He had many friends because he loved to joke around, laughing and talking with people, always with a smile on his face, willing to help someone if he could. He frequently would say that he lived a full and long life and how much his family meant to him and how proud he was of his kids.

He married LaJean McKissack and she survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughters, Kathleen Alvoid (King) son-in-law Greg, Olathe KS., Debra King, Flagstaff, AZ; four sons, Harvey King dtr.-in-law Juanita, Karl King, of Lawrence, KS., Marvin Howard (King) dtr.-in-law Ericka, Leavenworth, KS, John King, Wichita, KS; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Gordon, CA, Wilma Gray, CO, Dolores King, KS., and many, many nieces and nephews .

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Linda King, brother, Charles King; and sisters, Virginia Browning, Flossie Brown and Florence Wilson.

The visitation with family will be from 10:30 a.m. -11:30a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Warren-McElwain in Lawrence, KS.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pioneer Ridge.

Harvey meant at great deal to me as his neighbor at 1129 Oregon St In Lawrence. As I was just beginning to become A Serious Rastafarian and moving to establish the American Branch of The Rastafarian church and outreach faith here in the Midwest, his faith was immeasurable. He spoke to the lord daily. Truth!
