There are no formal services scheduled at this time for Joan M. McCarthy, 80, Lawrence, KS. Joan passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, at her home.

Joan was born on April 29, 1942, in Richmond, A, the daughter of Linus and Eleanor (Austin) Brazil.

Joan married Michael McCarthy on November 7, 1964, in Concord, CA, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Kelly Ann (Michael) McCarthy-Rettig, Shivaun Lee (Shawn) McCarthy, Erin Dee (Mark) Bergkamp, and many grandchildren.

Joan was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Padraic Desmond McCarthy. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to The Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    Joan was an amazing woman and kind soul. She cared for and watched-out for so many neighbors, including my mother. I recall that early each morning, she would walk Deer Run and move newspapers from the end of the driveways to front doors.
    My deepest condolences to your family on your loss.

    Joan always had a huge smile on her face and was always ready to tell you a story. Our sincere condolences to all of her family.

    I just loved watching KU Basketball games at Joan’s! She was such a fun lady! She will be sorely missed.
