Janice Geneve (Jenny) Gammill

Janice Geneve (Jenny) Gammill, Eudora, KS, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013.

Jenny was born May 20, 1929 in Timbo, Arkansas where she spent her early years. She married Dorlos John Gammill on October 18, 1944.

Times were rough as the country was recovering from the “Great Depression.” Jenny & Dorlos worked at many odd jobs to make a living and put food on the table. They traveled to many states in search of work. They lived in California, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Oklahoma.

In the mid 1950’s, the family moved to Eudora, Kansas to work for the Hercules Powder plant. When the plant closed, they moved to the greater Kansas City area where they both worked at Safeway Stores for 25 years until they retired. Jenny was described as a feisty,hard- working, determined person.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dorlos, her parents Willis & Carrie Perry, sisters Berniece Farris, Georgia Irvine, brothers Ralph Perry, Clifford Perry & Cordell Perry. Surviving family members daughter – Janice & Bob Freeman, Olathe, KS, sons – Danny Gammill, Shawnee, KS, Kevin Gammill, Paola, KS. Sisters Ruby Johnston, Overland Park, KS & Willene Green, Harrison, Arkansas. 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 6that Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Eudora Chapel. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery. Family will greet friends an hour before the service at 10 A.M.

The family suggest memorials in her name to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
