James Heim

A Mass of Christian Burial for James M. Heim, 69, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, KS.  Graveside services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Cemetery in Hoxie, Kansas.  He died on Friday, April 19, 2013, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Jim was born on April 6, 1944, in Leoville, KS, the son of William and Marie Mannebach Heim.

He was a 1969 graduate of the University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy.

He was a retired registered pharmacist.  He worked in management for the Osco Drug Company in the Chicago, IL area for 34 years.  In Lawrence, he worked for the Heartland Home Health Care.

Jim was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, The KU Pharmacy Dean’s Club, and was a Lifetime Member of the KU Alumni Association.

He married Mary Gail Lowery on April 24, 1971, in Shawnee Mission, KS.  She preceded him in death on November 17, 2009.

Survivors include a son, John A. (wife, Marnie) Heim, of Batavia, IL; two sisters, Bonita Lager, of Grinnell, KS, Mary Niblock, of Hoxie, KS; five brothers, Jerome Heim, of Hoxie, KS, Gerald Heim, of Hoxie, KS, Joseph Heim, Overland Park, KS, Don Heim, of Phoenix, AZ, William Heim, of San Diego, CA, a brother-in-law, Philip Thompson, of Loveland, CO; a sister-in-law, Nora Kaschube, of Lawrence, KS; and a niece, Amanda Kaschube, of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by sister, Eileen Thompson, of Loveland, CO.

A Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Capuchin Province of Mid America (Denver, CO), the KU School of Pharmacy, or to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Jim always brought joy and laughter with him to work and brightened everyone’s day. He was eager to help the other pharmacists with our busy schedules at a moments notice. We all loved Jim and will miss him so much, just as we miss Gail. My condolences to his family.

    Working for Jim when I was with Osco had a huge impact on my life, professionally and personally. I’ve thought of him often over the years. He was a good man and friend.
