James Houston Clovis

 

Funeral services for James Houston Clovis, 78, Lawrence, will be 1: 00 p.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

He died Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Medicalodges in Eudora.

James was born September 11, 1931 in Salina, KS, the son of Harry and Mary Hazel Agnew Clovis.

He had lived in Lawrence for over 50 years.

He was a shift foreman for KP&L and retired in 1990.  He was of the Methodist faith.  He was a life member and past Commander of Alford-Clarke Post  #852, VFW, Lawrence and a life member of the American Legion Post #225 in Ozawkie, KS. He also belonged to Mt. Oread Aerie #309, FOE in Lawrence.

James married Marjorie Ann Peine on July 28, 1973 in Greeley, KS.  She preceded him in death on September 30, 2009.

He is survived by a brother: Raymond Clovis and his wife Alice, Meridian, Idaho; and a sister Mary Jean Debboli and her husband Tony, Troy, NY. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.

Memorials in his name may be made to Alfred-Clarke Post #852, VFW, Lawrence  or Post  #225 American Legion, Ozawkie and be sent in care of the mortuary.  The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8;00 p.m., Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    I grew up across the street from Jim, I remember him as being the quiet one. Condolences to all of hs family. Larry
