Funeral services for Jacqueline Lynn McGuinness, 58, Lenexa, KS, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence, KS. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Jacqueline unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at her home.
Jacqueline was born on July 9, 1964, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter Donald and JoAnn (Hofpar) McGuinness.
Jackie was full of life and loved her family, her partner Jeff, her friends, coworkers, neighbors, and her many dogs over the years. She made friends easily. She was an avid veggie and plant gardener and an exceptional cook. She enjoyed making family recipes and preparing meals for others. She had the best green thumb that was reflective in the mounds of veggies she grew and all the healthy plants inside and outside her home. She had a special love of cactus. Jackie was a generous soul who looked after her neighbors and was quick to share whatever she had, to include her time, with her family, neighbors, friends, and coworkers. She was a loving daughter and talked to her mother frequently. She kept in contact with many extended family frequently as well.
She loved to travel and was able to see Kansas (of course!), Nebraska (one of her favorites because of extended family!), California, Illinois, Idaho, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Ireland (she kissed the Blarney Stone!), Washington, Canada, Hawaii, Missouri, Colorado, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Arkansas, and maybe more. The Arkansas travel was on Jeff’s motorcycle. Jackie thrived on adventure!
Jackie initially worked in the travel industry at Maupintour Travel Agency and Trans World Airlines (TWA). She managed the Elks Lodge in Lawrence, KS and then became a full-time caregiver to her father during his terminal illness which in turn led her into the medical field. She went on to work for Visiting Nursing Association of Douglas County, American Red Cross, Provant Health, and Quest Diagnostics. Jackie was certified in hospice care which is a testament to what a special person she was to care for terminally ill patients. She had a knack to make them feel special. She received a Para-Professional of the Year in 2009 for outstanding service and above care to patients from the National Kansas Association of Home Health Workers. Her patients loved her!
She received her health education at Kansas City Kansas Community College, Neosho County Community College in Ottawa, KS, and Johnson County Community College and racked up a host of certifications along the way.
Jackie was exceptionally creative and went all out in decorating for the holidays – she lit up like the Christmas tree in December for every holiday we celebrated. She made fun art out of food for the holidays and our family special events and always had a beautifully decorated table – a real Martha Stewart! In the weeks and days before her unexpected death, she was researching and preparing for their dog Greta’s litter of pups. We are sad she won’t see their arrival.
Jackie was always fun and often the funniest person in the room at gatherings! She will be missed deeply and forever! Our hearts are broken. Jackie was a Christian and loved the Lord. God rest her soul and peace be with her. We imagine she will enter heaven with a bang and be embraced by all who loved her and proceeded her, especially her father. We look forward to reuniting with her soul again.
Survivors include her mother, JoAnn McGuinness (Phil Stuart), siblings, Randy McGuinness, and Annette Delaney (Chris), her significant other, Jeff Allen, and their dogs Rockie, Baron, and expectant Greta.
Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Donald McGuinness, and her beloved dogs Mandy, Brandy, Dermont, Donald, Olivia, and Gracie.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence, KS.
