Jacob (Jake) Heironimous-Bishop

Jacob (Jake) Heironimous — Bishop passed away peacefully with his family around him at KU Medical Center on December 20, 2018 after a brief illness.   Jake was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 12, 1977. He was the son of David and Barbara Bishop.

Jake moved to Lawrence with his family in 1989 and graduated from Lawrence High School. He worked at several jobs in and around Lawrence. An accomplished writer and comedian he was a member of Renegade Theater comedy troupe and did occasional stand-up. He also did readings of his poetry by invitation and at open mike nights.

He never met a person he didn’t like or find interesting. There are very few people that, upon meeting him, didn’t like Jake. He would strike up a conversation with just about anyone he came in contact with and learned more about them than they did about him. Jake had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a humorous quip or sarcastic remark. He was well known for his collection of unique socks which he proudly wore with his pant legs rolled up to mid-calf. He had extensive and eclectic music collection and was a fan of cheesy television movies.

Jake was preceded in death by his grandparents Glenn and Rosemary Bishop and John and Mary Ellen Neal. He is survived by his children Evelyn (EV) and Javier (JAE), parents David and Barbara Bishop, brother Ian (Jen), niece Allix, and nephews Caleb and Quinten. He will also be missed by his fiancé Missy Irwin, ex-wife Sarah and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of Jake’s life will be held on Thursday January 3, 2019 from 7:00 ~ 9:00 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Memorial trees will be planted in Lawrence and at the Neal Family Reunion in Millerville, Ohio this spring and summer

Contributions may be made in Jake’s name to the Arc of Douglas County, Lawrence KS and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

To the Family, so sorry for your loss. Hope you will be comforted in knowing that Jacob has the prospect of being resurrected, healthy (in the flesh), to Paradise Earth just as Jehovah God has promised. In fact , the vast majority will enjoy everlasting life right here on earth as God had intended from the beginning. God’s Kingdom will do this under the rule of Jesus Christ. The place we worked wasn’t known for having employees you could depend on. But Jake, guy was always on time, and did what he could to keep the store afloat. Aside from a good co-worker, the conversations we’d have as the changing of the guard took place were always ones I could get into and enjoy, anything went, like the ones Dante and Randall from Clerks had as they worked together at a store just like ours

Gonna miss you, man. The store, and a special place in my life ain’t gonna be the same without you. Something tells me I’ll never really know someone like you ever again, but maybe that’s what made you special

Jake we won’t ever forget the time you stayed a wk with us one summer when you were a kid. And of course you had to knock your tooth out on the pool slide but hey we got ya to a 24 hr emergency dentist and all was well. Glad we got to visit with you when we all were together for your grandmothers service. Who knew that would be the last time your family in Okla would see you. Fly high and watch over us.
