We always called her Verldean and she used to babysit me and my brother Danny when we all lived in the old 3 story school house in Eudora. Verldean was a Gammill and we had a lot of relatives who lived in Eudora and worked at the Hercules Powder plant in Sunflower Village, all from Arkansas. I worked with Dean and my aunt Ruby at Western Electric in Merriam, KS. Dean was one of the nicest people I have ever met. One of the last generations of decent people. Dean was one of the first people I went to with questions about family lineage. RIP Dean, you have earned it and you will be missed.

Verldean was a special person. She and my Mom were first cousins, but were as close as sisters. She was always laughing, cutting up and joking with Mom, and anyone who was in her presence. I loved when she, Rolland and Steve would visit AR and stay at our house. We also visited them once that I can remember in Kansas. She will be greatly missed.

Ida you will always be in My Heart, it’s filled with so many years of Fond Memories starting May 1967 . That’s when Ricky, your brother and my fellow 1967 Senior classmate , introduced me to you. It was a Eudora summer baseball game.. You asked me if I had a job yet? You said you worked at Western Electric in Merriam, Kansas, and there was an opening in the Office, if I wanted to apply. I was so thrilled, excited, and applied the next day! I got the job, $310 a month! It was so much money back in 1967, especially for me, I Just graduating from EHS! ! The rest is History! Ida was my mentor, teacher, let me ride to work with her, especially since I had no car and experience, She took me under her wing for my 32 years that I worked at Western Electric! She was always Caring ,Kind, knowledgeable to everything that I didnt know. She was funny, thoughtful, and even would sleep in the car when it was my day to drive. . So I figured she trusted me too….. We were Good Friends, Working buddies, she would do anything for me, and I would for her. Thanks…. . I am so happy to have you in my life. You are so very Sweet and Special! I will never forget You! You will be Missed but Never Forgotten. Love You! Connie

Verldean was my third cousin, and I will remember her as a one of the most kind, sweet, and genuine people I had the privilege of knowing. I looked forward to seeing her at family reunions in Mountainview, AR; Pleasant Hill, AR; and Branson, MO. She always had a smile on her face and her joyous personality spread around the room to everyone who encountered her. Some of my most fond memories during the Branson reunions were listening to her and others tell stories about previous generations of the family.

In the past two days, I have thought a lot about Verldean and the moments I got to spend around her. My grandfather and dad always spoke about how much she adored her family, and I saw that each time I was around her. She was a beautiful, selfless soul who let her light shine bright for God, and I am thankful to have known her. Rest in peace!

Steve and Ricky, I am praying for you and the rest of her immediate family and friends. I hope that you can feel a sense of comfort in this time.
