Harry Puckett

Graveside services for Harry Bond Puckett, 87, Lawrence will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.  He died March 8, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 2, 1921 in Lawrence, Kansas the son of Leroy Edwin and Ruth Maude (Bond) Puckett.

He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp.  He was a Bomber Pilot and flew B24’s during the European Theater.   He owned and operated Puckett Construction Company for a number of years.  He later worked for EKAN (East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation) until he retired.  Harry enjoyed his Friday Night Poker games.

He married Clara Mae Cole on August 7, 1976 in Hastings, Nebraska.  She preceded him in death on April 9, 2004.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Mooney and her husband, Ken of Lawrence; two step-daughters, Dee Dee Commons and her husband, Ron of Baldwin; Clarice Patchen and husband, Tom of Baldwin; one step-son, Daryl Richardson of Lawrence; one brother, Wayne Puckett, Lake Havasu, AZ;  three grandchildren, Dana Robson, Michelle Lown, Shane Whitaker; five step-grandchildren, David Patchen, Jason Patchen, Chad Commons, Ryan Richardson, Mark Coffman; four great-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; and one great- great- grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Teresa Whitaker and a brother, Kenneth.

The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
