Harrison Traul

A graveside service for Harrison K. Traul, Jr., 89, Lawrence will be held 2 pm, Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Elm Grove Cemetery in Linn County.  Mr. Traul died March 25, 2010 at his home.

He was born on October 13, 1920 in Parker, Kansas, the son of Harrison Knisely and Mary Margaret Thomas Traul. 

He retired from the City of Lawrence Utility Department in 1989. 

Mr. Traul’s memberships included: past member of I.O.O.F., member and Past Master of Acacia Lodge #9 AF&AM, member and Past Venerable Master of Scottish Rite Bodies of Lawrence, member and Past Commander of Knights Templar-York Rite Bodies of Lawrence, member and Past Worthy Patron of Adah Chapter #7 Order of the Eastern Star and Past Watchman of the Shepherds- Fidelity White Shrine of Jerusalem #11.  He was also involved with Troop #53 of the Boy Scouts of America, Pelathe District, where he had received the Honorary Warrior Award, in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, held the Vigil honor in the Order of the Arrow, and received the Silver Beaver Award for his volunteer work.     

He married Roberta Strong on August 19, 1966 in Kansas City, Kansas.  She survives of the home. 

Other survivors include one daughter, Mary L. Traul, and husband, Allen Fennewald, Baldwin City, KS; two sons, James, and wife, Wendy, Eric K., all of Lawrence; six grandchildren, William Harrison Elniff, Christian Wolfe Elniff, Jennifer Jackson, and husband, Rod, Janine Jones, Jim Jones, and Pvt. Jeremy Johnson,; 7 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda L. on April 10, 2004 and four brothers.  

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to: Douglas County Visiting Nurses,
Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or an organization of the donors choice and may be sent in care of  Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family will greet friends at the mortuary Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm at which time there will be a Masonic Burial Service by Acacia Lodge #9, AF&AM.
