Grace Alice Helmert

Graveside services for Grace Alice Gibson Helmert, 88, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Grace passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Windsor of Lawrence.

Grace was born on March 29, 1934 in Silver Lake, KS, the daughter of Rollo W. and Ada V. (Proctor) Gibson.

She was a Home Healthcare Attendant for the SRS for 15 years until she retired in 1996.

She married Harry C. Helmert on April 19, 1964 in Miami, OK. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Tracey I. (Edward) Libel; son, Terry Helmert; two step children, Wanda Lewis Jackson, Kelvin Helmert; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Veda Sharon and Velma Burris. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Linda Pearce, Shirley Gurki, her siblings, Nellie Martin, Alberta Ford, Bill Gibson, Rossco Gibson, Phil Gibson.

Memorial contributions may be made in Grace’s name to Cottonwood Inc. or Interim Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    Grace was my daughter, Lindsey’s, grandmother. Grace had a special love for her first grand baby and for that I am grateful. Rest in peace Grace. God bless.

    Grace and I worked together for years at Assisted. After leaving Assisted she also helped care for one of my family members. She was a trusted friend.

    I’m sorry to hear she’s passed and our prayers are with all her family and friends.
