Gerald W. Vidan, D.D.S.

Gerald W. Vidan, D.D.S., 50, of Eudora passed away on July 3, 2019 at his home.

Gerald was born May 22, 1969 in Granite City, IL, the son of Walter Charles and Janet Kay (Line) Vidan. He was raised in Little Rock, Arkansas and Overland Park, Kansas.

He completed his Bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Missouri Kansas City. After completing his degrees, he started his first assignment as the dentist at the Federal Correctional Institution Lompoc in Lompoc, California. After five years, he started his own private practice in Eudora, Kansas. Upon returning to Kansas he became a beloved member of multiple communities, strengthening the bonds and faith of those at Bethany Lutheran Church. Before moving back to Kansas he was a young elder for the church. Jerry played many roles at Bethany from digging deep into faith to simply washing the dishes. His heart was filled with the desire of the outdoors. From the top of Colorado’s 14ers to the shores of Kansas’ lakes he was always active. Jerry loved to bike, climb, run, kite board, orienteer, and the list goes on. However, for him all was second compared to the love he had for the Lord and his family.

He married Gina Hahn on June 25, 1994 in Kansas City, MO. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, Christian and daughter, Alexandria both of the home; parents, Walter and Janet Vidan, East Highland Ranch, California; sister, Kristi (Vidan) Rowan and Todd Rowan, California; sister, Kay Vidan, Wichita, KS; and nieces and nephews, Ryan, Spencer, Nicholas, Ricky, Brittany and Zachary.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel 1003 John L. Williams Dr. in Eudora.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Bethany Lutheran Church 9101 Lamar Ave, Overland Park, KS. Burial will follow at Eudora Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Gerald’s memory to Gina Vidan to further his children’s education and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

  15. Sue Cooper on July 9, 2019 at 11:50 am

My heart breaks for all that loved him. He was so kind, gentle, through & soft spoken. My grandkids loved going to him. This is how kind he was, my elderly sister was in the hospital & the staff threw her false teeth in the trash by accident. She hated people seeing her without them. We called Debbie to see about getting an impression made so a friend of mine (a dental tech) could make her new ones. Dr Vidan & Debbie came to her house that afternoon and made the impression. I’m sure he’s the only dentist that would make a house call. Wishing his loved ones Peace, Love & Strength. Sue, Tim, Zach & Kyle Cooper

  37. Rachael Steffen on July 9, 2019 at 9:56 pm

Words can not express the feelings of loss for Doc’s family, friends, work family, and the Eudora community. It wasn’t always an easy journey for me to go see any dentist, from a young age I became very fearful of going. However, from the first time I met this great man, he’d always make me feel as easy as possible. Usually by cracking some joke, while my mouth was wide open, and full of instruments, where I couldn’t laugh or say anything until he removed whatever was in the way of me being able to answer him. Many a time, Debbie, would tell me I should just bite him, which would maybe us all laugh. He’d then pull his face mask down, and with that ornery grin if his, make some other joke. It’ll not be the same with another dentist, he truly was one of a kind, and will be missed by all that knew him, and had the pleasure of him being in our lives. Rest in paradise Doc.

  43. Terri Long on July 10, 2019 at 12:33 pm

Dr Vidan was the best! My family will miss him greatly. Condolences for his home family and work family. My son Christian cannot walk or talk and Dr Vidan always took extra time with him. One time Christian was running a fever for a couple of days and he finally pointed to his mouth when I asked him where he was hurting. I ran him over to the office and Dr Vidan came out to the van to look in his mouth…..he had an infected tooth. He never made it feel like Christian got any other treatment than any other patient did….but he did!!! So much so that sometimes when we would drive by his office Christian would point there and I would ask “What? You want to go to the dentist?” he would shake his head yes…..they didn’t care how long it too him to go thru the treasure chest finding that cool toy. We will miss him so much.

Our hearts are grieved at the loss of Gerald, we are asking God to comfort & ease the heartache that is surrounding Walt , Janet, Gerald’s wife Jina & their children…

We know that we can’t soften the blow that has hit you all unexpectedly, but we do know that this pain is not new to our loving Father who lost his son too, it’s during these times, we can only imagine God’s heart being torn in two because of what was happening on the cross – his only beloved son dying an unworthy death and of the price being paid for our forgiveness.

We don’t often think about the anguish of God. At Jesus’ death there was such a dramatic event that even the earth reacted to it, as the earth shook, trembled, & shuddered at the death of its Creator, because it instantly felt its loss. We will never know the pain in our Father’s heart or fathom it’s depths, except through the loss of a loved one.

Please know how deeply you all are loved & we will always be here for you.
Holding you close in our hearts & prayers,

    Dear, Mrs. Vidon and family.
I am deeply saddened for your loss. I apologize I would have been there at the funeral, but I didn’t find out until later. Dr. Vidon was one of the nicest persons I have ever known. You could tell he genuinely cared about his patients. I always enjoyed going and getting my yearly checkups. He make going to the dentist fun, if going to the dentist can be fun and it was. A few years ago he saved my life. I had had an allergic reaction to a medication not knowing what it was I was thinking I had a bad tooth I went to see him. Right away he sent me to the ENT specialist and literally saved my life. I was always proud to say he was my doctor. I love to brag on Facebook that I had no cavities and that was because of the wonderful dental care that I got. My sincerest condolences to all of you. The Lord must of needed him pretty bad to take someone so wonderful and soon. Keeping you all in my prayers. God’s speed, and RIP, Dr. Vidon.
