Graveside services for Gary Stephen “Steve” Henry, 72, Kansas City, MO will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Oak Hill Cemetery natural burial section in Lawrence, KS.

He died Sunday, 18 February 2018 at Kansas City Hospice, North Kansas City, MO.

Steve was born 19 March 1945 in Garnett, KS to Rodman Lawrence and Freida Helen (Lappin) Henry.

He was a customer service representative for 40 years in interstate trucking.

He practiced karate, 2nd degree black belt, teaching for 25 years.

Steve shared his wife’s passion for rescuing abandoned, homeless cats and dogs, rescuing at least 70 during their 33 years together.

He is survived by his wife, B.J. Arey, of the home; sister, Linda Collier, AZ; son, Shane C. Henry, CA; step-sons Leroy Arey, MO; Eric Arey (Missy), IA; step-grandchildren Andy Arey, Il; Allie Arey.

Memorial contributions may be made to KC Pet Project and sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
