Funeral service for Evelyne G. Christian, 90, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Clinton Cemetery. She died January 30, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Douglas County.
She was born May 25, 1918, at Richland, KS, the daughter of James Phillip and Jennie Bell (Simmons) Heyl.
Mrs. Christian grew up in Richland, Kansas. She lived on a farm in the Worden area for 60 years. She was a homemaker. She worked in Ottawa at Parmelee Plastics. She was a self-employed house cleaner for contractors. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her family.
She also loved oil painting, gardening and cooking family dinners.
She married George W. Christian on June 27, 1936. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Patterson, husband, Joe, Lawrence, Janet Means, husband, Jim, McLouth, Connie Flory, husband, Murray, Lawrence; Three sons, Vernon, wife, Joan, Baldwin city, Jim, wife, Tina, Lawrence, Raymond, wife, Ann, Overbrook; 25 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, February 2, at the Warren- McElwain Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or Lawrence Free Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary.
