Memorial services for Evelyn Grace Petersilie Reinert, 88, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Inurnment will be at a later date at Ness City Cemetery in Ness City, KS. Evelyn passed away peacefully at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS on November 29, 2017 one day before her 89th birthday. She was born November 30, 1928 on a farm in Highpoint Township, Ness County, Kansas, the only child of James and Edna Curtiss Petersilie.
She attended a country grade school and Bazine High School graduating in 1946. For 10 years, she farmed with her parents then entered Dominican School of Nursing in Great Bend, Kansas. She graduated as an RN in 1959. In 1962 she married Orlyn Reinert. To this union was born one son, James in 1963. She always took great pride in being a very devoted mother.
As a nurse, Evelyn spent over 30 years working at Ness County Hospital. She worked in many areas including medical, surgical, obstetrics, and pharmacy. She also served as Director of Nursing and later on the hospital board of directors. She had a lifelong passion for nursing and healthcare in general.
After retiring, Evelyn moved to Lawrence, Kansas to be near her son. She was always devoted to her faith in God and was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. During her retirement, she kept busy with many activities including gardening, crafts, sewing, and cooking. She was an avid reader and loved animals.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Catholic Charities or the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
James, a note to say how honored I am to have known your mother. She was a perfect example of someone who kept engaged in life, never let anything stop her and always brightened her home with African violets! She will be missed.
