Dorothy Evelyn Ingersoll

Dorothy Ingersoll passed away on June 24, 2021 at Morningstar Care home in Baldwin City Kansas. Dorothy was born on July 10, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio to Evelyn and Elmer Puryear. Dorothy moved to Brooklyn New York as a young child where she grew up, met and married Walton Ingersoll on February 4, 1945. Walton preceded her in death on June 29, 1986.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Richard Ingersoll and his partner Billy Moore of Wichita; her daughter and son in law, Diane and Robert Oakes of Lawrence, Ks; granddaughter Jenna (Oakes) Smith of Arizona, husband Brian and their children Evelyn and Charlies; and grandson James Oakes of Lawrence and his daughter Kaylee.

Prior to retirement and moving to Lawrence Dorothy was a clerical worker for several businesses, finishing her career with the United Way of Greater New York. Dorothy spent many years volunteering for the Watkins History Museum in Lawrence. Her true passion was for her family. Dorothy dedicated her life to caring for her children and grandchildren and was beloved by all for her caring nature and giving heart.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Midland Care PACE and Morningstar Care Home for the care and comfort they provided to Dorothy during the end of her life.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to a charity of donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

As per her wishes Dorothy will be cremated. There will be no service at this time.

    Dorothy was always great fun to work with while she was a the Watkins Museum! She was willing to do what ever was asked of her.
