Doris J. Rees

Graveside services for Doris J. Rees, 82, Lawrence will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Mt. Sidney Cemetery in Linwood, KS. She passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Doris was born November 25, 1934 in Linwood, Kansas the daughter of Barney and Ruth (Jones) Evans.

She was a member of the FOE Eagles #309 Auxiliary and attended Lawrence Wesleyan Church.

She married Howard Sloan in 1952, they divorced in 1974. She later married Ralph Lyle Rees December 12, 1975 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death October 13, 2004.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Post, Lawrence; son, Terry Sloan, Lawrence; two sisters, Goldie Zimmerli, Barbara Blackburn; brother, Joe Evans; four grandchildren, Cassie Post, Evan Sloan, Sam Sloan, Lindy Sloan and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Barnett, Osy Coffman, Peg Mayhugh; brother, Alfred Evans; son, Tim Sloan; and a great-grandson.

A celebration of life will be held following the graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 1803 W. 6th Street, Lawrence, 66044.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Lawrence Wesleyan Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    My look-a-like “Little Big Sister”, I will miss you always. My heart is so sad. I called Doris my “Little Big Sister” because I was taller than her by the time I was about 14. She and I looked so much alike for so many years, and I loved that!
