David’s example of pointing people to Jesus and the love he demonstrated for his family and friends will never be forgotten. Our family has been blessed beyond measure by David and Coleen’s friendship. When our boys were small, they were captivated by David, and continued to enjoy their visits with him as they grew older. We love you, Coleen. You and Becky, Carter, Molly, Mark, Dayna, Jacob and Micah will be in our prayers. May God give you His peace and His comfort each and every day.

  5. Shirley and Dwayne Gannon on September 14, 2023 at 1:57 am

My wife Shirley and I were David’s classmates for twelve years and we accepted Jesus as our savior at the same church. I was a college friend at Iowa State were he was a captain and four year star on the football team. For sixteen years he was my closest friend and we shared endless memories. I was so happy to stand with him in his marriage to you, Coleen. We wish we could have been closer after college but our memories of a genuine and faithful friend will last forever.

Years ago Dave and Coleen asked me to help them sell their home on Eldorado Dr in Lawrence. We found a stern buyer who made many requests. The day of closing, the buyer also ask for a walk thru before he would close. When he arrived at the Hoover’s, he started asking if this and that had been done. David quietly said “yes, and oh by the way I replaced this item instead repairing, and I happened to find this needed attention so I fixed it, and I also went ahead and paid the last half of your homeowner ass’n dues.” The buyer melted, was very complimentary, and closed! What a great testimony. I learned a real lesson that day . ” Go beyond what is ask of you.” Blessings to the family.

  17. Frank Ward on September 15, 2023 at 10:35 am

Colleen, my prayers are for you and your family at this time of need . Dave was a childhood friend as we were in the same class as well as neighbors a block apart. Fond memories of David abound. David was a man who ‘talked the talk, walked the walk’ in his Christian faith. David is now with Christ Jesus, and all who believe in Him will someday see one another, May that promise give you strength at this time. .

  18. Mark, Laurie, Alex and Emily Milton on September 15, 2023 at 1:19 pm

David was the kindest, most encouraging, loving person I’ve ever known. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was never afraid to share his faith or God’s promises with anyone. We chose David & Coleen as our kid’s godparents 30+ years ago because of their influence in MY (Laurie’s) walk with Jesus. With our own parents deceased, David showed his love for our children in many ways throughout their lives; playing with them, advising, encouraging, helping with job interviews…. He exemplified what the life of a Christian father, grandfather, and devoted husband should be. He was truly a servant in every respect, generous to a fault, and the hardest working man we’ve ever known. He will be greatly missed by our family. But we praise God that we will be with him again one day. We love the Hoover family and we pray for God’s peace during this sad time. With love from the Milton’s.

Dave Hoover was one of the best men I ever knew. He changed my life when he recruited me to Emporia State in 1976. He gave the opportunity to play my best football and get an education that served me well for many years.

Losing someone who is near and dear to us is always so hard. There are three main thoughts that come to mind when we endure this loss.
    1. Our life here on earth is short and we will all be with him in a blink of an eye.
    2. An old Cowboy when told if he didn’t get dialysis he’d die and he replied, “Doc, there are a lot of things that are worse than dying!”
    3. He is at peace with Jesus!
David touched so so many of our lives, near and far! He was very special! Coleen, our prayers are with you and your whole family.
    With our love,
Uncle Bob & Aunt Rose Travis

David was such a kind man. While I only knew him for a short time as he helped keep our school clean, he was always pleasant to talk to, rushed to help wherever needed, and did his very best. He always talked about his family and shared how proud he was. Prayers for the family during this difficult time.
