Daniel Ray Cole

A Memorial Visitation for Daniel Ray Cole, 65, Lawrence, KS, will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Daniel passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022. Dan was born October 21, 1956 and is the beloved son of Harry Ray and Vera Sue Cole and is survived by his two sisters, Sandy Poff and Colleen Backhold.

Dan was a contractor and builder for many years and built many beautiful homes in Lawrence. He then followed his passion as a master carpenter and completed many residential and business projects. Dan loved to golf and fish. Some of his favorite memories were at his Grandma and Grandpa’s cabin, fishing in Canada. He was also a great chef and made the best cheesecakes! We enjoyed many holiday meals made by Dan followed by fireworks that he put on which his nieces and nephews loved. Dan also enjoyed playing softball with the “Donuts” for many years. Much fun was had, and many tall tales were told by Dan and the team. Dan was an animal lover and is survived by his cat, Bobbie, who misses him so.

We love you and will always miss you, Dan, but have some solace in knowing that you are now free of pain and in peace.

Wonderful times on the softball team together. Truly the “Donuts” were/are a family. Dan was an important part of that family. Our sincere sympathy goes out to you Sandy and Colleen. I am so sorry we will not be able to join you Saturday to celebrate Dan’s life as we have a wedding out of town. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oh my sweet and dear old friend Colleen, I was, and remain so deeply sorry when I heard about Dan’s passing.. All these years, I never put 2 and 2 together and realized “this” Dan Cole, was your brother Dan Cole… My hearat and prayers of course go out to Sandy as well… There is never a “right time” to lose someone we love so deeply, whether the loss is sudden, or – even possibly expected, it is just never the right time.. Dan was always quick with his warm smile, and when he ask “how have you been” it was because he genuinely cared about his friends and family.. He will be missed by so any, especially you two, and the nieces and nephews.. My heart and prayers remain with both of you. Sending both of you the hope that love and support from friends will help you through this difficult time.

Dan was a very good friend to me, often guiding me in the right direction when necessary, but he also knew when to have fun and let go. I will miss his company dearly. His warm spirit and generosity were appreciated by many. I wish I had known him longer than the 8 years that I did, but am grateful for the time I spent with him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his sisters, Coleen and Sandy through this difficult time. RIP Dan the Man…
