So sorry for your loss. Doesn’t seem that long ago I was sitting in the living room on the couch waiting for Wendell to go to Central Jr High one morning. The song “If you want it hear it is come and get it” was playing. Doc came around from the kitchen and said “what you think they want you to come and get”? In shrill voice I said “I don’t know”. At the time I thought he wanted me to have an answer. We all stayed in line when he was around. One of the great father figures in our old East Lawrence neighborhood. Great guy. He will be missed.

I knew Dan as one of the kindest, gentlest, and warmest men I had ever met. He and I met in 2009. I would have enjoyed knowing him as a boater because boating with family was a passion the two of us shared. But most importantly, Dan Basel and I shared the same Savior. To be absent from the Body is to be present with Lord, (2 Corinthians 5:8). Brother Dan your friends, your church, and your family miss you dearly–But what a reunion you must surely be enjoying. We sorrow, but with great hope as we all await that great day! (1 Thessalonians 4:13)
