A Memorial Mass for Charles “Charlie” F. Steinbacher, 70, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, KS. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Great Bend Cemetery in Great Bend, KS. Mr. Steinbacher died on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Steinbacher was born on August 29, 1938 in Great Bend, KS, the son of Charles F. and Eulalia Brehm Steinbacher.
He was a 1971 graduate from the University of Kansas with his B.S. in Civil Engineering.
Before his retirement, he worked as a professional engineer at Evans, Bierly, Hutchison and Associates in Lawrence.
Mr. Steinbacher was a member of the Lawrence Knights of Columbus, Alford-Clark Post #852-VFW, the Noon Rotary Club, American Council of Engineering Companies, and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
He was married to Patricia Ann Schroeder. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2007.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherin Steinbacher and husband, Frank McMahon, of Lawrence, KS, a son, Matthew Steinbacher, of Lawrence, KS, two brothers; Pete Steinbacher, of Chatsworth, CA, Jim Steinbacher, of Scottsdale, AZ, four sisters; Laura Ann Schenkel, of Great Bend, KS, Mary Lou Steinbacher of Lakewood, CO, Jolene Romme, of Burleson, TX, Jeanne Hollembeak, of Wichita, KS, two step granddaughters; Kaci Kesinger, Melanie McMahon, and one step great granddaughter, Sydney Kesinger. He was preceded in death by a daughter, his parents and a brother.
A Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. The family will greet friends until 8:30 p.m.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the Knights of Columbus in Lawrence or to the University of Kansas School of Engineering and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
