Charlene Joyce Garzillo

A visitation for Charlene Joyce Garzillo, 75, Baldwin City, will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. She died August 7, 2016 at her home.

She was born on November 5, 1940 in Concordia, KS the daughter of Herman Joyce and Maxine Fay (Hose) Shunn.

Charlene graduated from Concordia High School. She received her MA from Emporia State University in Education. She was a math teacher in New Jersey where she met her husband, Patrick Garzillo. She later worked for Langhofer Real Estate, and was the founder of Real Estate School of Lawrence and worked for Gill Real Estate as a closing officer. Charlene also owned and operated Garzillo tax service and was a part-time substitute teacher. She was an avid golfer, organized women’s golfing events at the Orchards and Eagle Bend. She also ran for Douglas County clerk in the 1980’s. And a longtime supporter of 4-H. Charlene loved baseball, Royals, Chiefs, Jayhawks and her grandkids.

She is survived in death by her son, Charles Garzillo Baldwin KS, three granddaughters, Charlie Marie Cooper husband, Nathan Cooper, Lawrence, Mary Beth Muckey husband, Josh Muckey, Junction City, and Kasey Jo Garzillo, Junction City; one great grandson, Troy Robert Muckey, Junction City; a brother and sister in-law, Marvin and Barbara Shunn, Concordia KS.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Douglas County 4-H Foundation and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    Charlie & family, our thoughts and prayers go out to you at this time of loss. I remember meeting your mom once at dinner. She was a very sweet lady. I’m sure she will be missed greatly by all of you.
