Carole Swartz

Memorial services for Carole Rae Swartz, 66, Lawrence, KS,  will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.  She died April 16, 2011 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community. 
 

She was born July 8, 1944 in Connellsville, PA, the daughter of Robert S. and Ida Pearle White.  She was raised in Pennsylvania and lived in the Carlisle, PA area until moving to Kansas in the early 1980’s.

She received her undergraduate degree from Penn State University and later received her Master’s Degree from Emporia State University.
 

Carole was a Junior High Spanish teacher.  She taught at Pioneer Trail in Olathe for 15 years before retiring in 2001.  Shortly after retirement, she moved to Lawrence with her husband, Ted.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.

Carole loved travel, hiking, needlework, gardening, and reading.  She also was a volunteer usher at the Lied Center for many different events.  She will always be remembered for her kindness, hard work, and sense of humor.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Ted Swartz, of Lawrence; her daughter, Heather McComas of Evanston, IL; one brother, Robert A. White, St. Petersburg, FL; one sister, Kathryn F. Satterwhite, Bradenton, FL.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Constance J. McCalmont.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials contributions in her name to the American Cancer Society, UNICEF, or Habitat for Humanity and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
