Carol Groves

Funeral service for Carol Groves, 83, Lawrence will be held 11 a.m. Friday October 29, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.  Mr. Groves died on October 26, 2010 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.     

He was born on April 17, 1927 in Boise City, Oklahoma the son of Ross and Sarah Sparks Groves of Stafford, Kansas.  He was raised in Wichita, KS  and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1945.  He enlisted in the Army Air Corps after high school and was stationed at Mather Field in California as World War II was ending.  He later studied at Wichita University and received his degree in art from Kansas City Art Institution.   

He began his work career in Wichita at Western Litographer and later moved to Kansas City where he worked for Krug Lithographic.  In the early 60’s Carol Groves went into business for himself.  Carol owned and operated Color Right Incorporated in North Kansas City, MO and Laser Graphics in Lawrence.  After retiring Carol & Marge moved to Crawford County, KS where Carol was active in the American Legion.  He was a member of the Lithographic Association in North Kansas City, MO where he was the National President.  He was active in the Lithographers of America Union.   

He married Marjorie Parker on October 8, 1948 in Wichita, KS.  She survives of the home.  

Other survivors include two sons, Parker Groves and wife, Kathy, Lawrence; John Groves, Gainesville, Florida; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Todd, Laura, Josh and Rachel.  He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters.  

The family will greet friends from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Mortuary. 

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to American Humane Association or to Children’s Mercy Hospital and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    We are so sorry about Carol’s death. He was such a wonderful husband,father and friend. He will be greatly missed. He fought a great fight with courage and determination; but now he can be at peace. May your memories and love sustain all of you at this time of sorrow.
