Bonnie McDaniels Sabol

Memorial Services for Bonnie McDaniels Sabol, 92, Lawrence will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Private family burial will be at a later time in Memorial Park Cemetery. She died May 30, 2017 at Brandon Woods Retirement Community, Lawrence, KS.

She was born Bonnie Ruth McDaniels on February 24, 1925 in Elkins, West Virginia, the daughter of John and Gertrud (Shoemaker) McDaniels.

Spending her childhood in Charleston, West Virginia, Bonnie graduated High School and went to work at the Phone Company and then later became a Secretary at an attorney’s office. In her spare time, she volunteered for the USO where she eventually met and married Albert “Al” G. Sabol II, on October 13, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1987.

The couple moved to Lawrence in 1953 where Bonnie was a volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and an avid bowler. She found joy in her lifelong friends, and for over 30 years took part in several Bridge groups including the Bridgeless Lunch Club and the Birthday Group.

She was a homemaker, enjoyed time with her family, and remained a dedicated KU and Royals fan until her passing. During her years at Brandon Woods, if there was a game on TV, the staff would graciously allow Bonnie to stay up and watch it, joining in her enthusiasm and love of sports.

She is survived by her son, George Sabol and his wife, Tammy of Lawrence; two daughters, Joanne Sabol Eichhorn and her husband, Chris of Baldwin City, KS, Connie Sabol Winters and her husband, Jim of Durate, CA; five grandchildren, Jackson, Christopher, Frank, Ken, Eric; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ERC (Employee Recognition Committee) at Brandon Woods and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
