Funeral service for Bobby “Bob” Joe Kolars, 72, Lawrence, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2009, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Kolars died April 7, 2009, at Wyndam Place Senior Residence in Lawrence.
He was born November 10, 1936, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Joe J. and Bertha Lisher Kolars.
He attended KU majoring in Political Science. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Special Forces during the Korean War. He was a personal trainer for the Lawrence Athletic Club. He also worked as an independent contractor. From 1986 to 1991 he has been the executive vice president for the Electric Association of Missouri and Kansas/Kansas City, MO.
He was a member of the Missouri Merchants Manufacturers Association, International League of Electrical Associations, Vice Chairman of the Ad Hoc Licensing Committee for Kansas City, MO. He was also a member of the Dorsey-Liberty Post #14, American Legion, Lawrence, and a member of The Salvation Army Church and a volunteer with Toys for Tots and Operation Warmth.
Survivors include two daughters, Perri Kolars, Shawnee, KS, Gaylene Jones, Overbrook, KS; a sister, Karen Curl, Lawrence, a brother, Keith, San Antonio, TX, and two grandchildren.
He will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m., Sunday. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to The Salvation Army Church, Lawrence, and sent in care of the mortuary.
