Mrs. VanDyke was a substitute teacher my 3rd grade year at Lecompton Elementary School. We had a lot of substitutes that year due to the regular teacher’s illness and Mrs. VanDyke stood out among all of those as an excellent teacher. Beverly’s mom Vesta, got tapped to substitute that year as well. Beverly went to school with my dad and they shared many memories of their school days whenever they would meet. Sincere condolences on your loss of a lovely lady.

Mrs. Van Dyke was my 2nd grade teacher at Woodlawn Elementary. I remember her being very kind, she took me under her wing, so to speak. She was the teacher I most remember missing when I left her class to go on to 3rd grade. She always praised me for my spelling and handwriting abilities as well as my math skills. She will be deeply missed. She probably had no idea how many children she left such an impression on with all of the great books she would read to class Including my favorite, “The Boxcar Children” . I will never forget her
