Bettie Charlene Wilson, 74, a cherished resident of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on November 21, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.
She was born on May 15, 1950 in West Hollywood, CA to Adelaide Lucille “Searle” Wilson Creath and Charles Francis Wilson (both deceased). Her life was a testament to hard work and compassion, values she instilled in her family. Bettie’s professional journey was diverse, spanning roles in the medical field, sales, and hospitality, including positions as a nail technician, bartender, housekeeper, and office manager at Adam’s Chiropractic. She was affectionately known as the “Dairy Fairy” during her time at Dillons. Her passion for helping others was evident in her role as a Chaplain at Unity of Lawrence.
Bettie’s greatest pride was her family, celebrating their achievements in education and careers. Her vibrant spirit and love for people were evident in her willingness to help and her dedication to finding homes for unwanted items, benefiting organizations like the Humane Society, 100 Good Women and local schools. She also made it clear in the weeks leading up to her passing that she wanted to donate her pacemaker and any viable tissues. These items will benefit others through the University of Michigan, Frankel Cardiovascular Center and the Midwest Transplant Network.
An avid traveler, Bettie embarked on numerous adventures, creating cherished memories with her children and friends. Her travels included epic road trips, beach campouts, and recent journeys to California, Kauai, and Montana for her granddaughter Coral’s graduation.
Bettie’s commitment to her community was unwavering. At Unity of Lawrence, she served as a chaplain, custodian, and kitchen goddess, touching many lives with her kindness, generosity and spirit of service.
Bettie is survived by her wife, Catherine L. Moreland of the home; daughters Deena M. Wilson (Barrett “Buzz” Belt), Lawrence, KS and Kimberly D. Eder (Mark), Red Lodge, MT; grandchildren Jacob Wilson-Kloster (Emma), Violet Belt and Coral Eder; Nieces and Nephews Lisa Bailey (Matthew), Rei Reid, Derek Bailey and Kegan Bailey; as well as many cousins, bonus family members and friends. Bettie was preceded in death by her brother John “Jay” Charles Wilson, and her husband Charles “Chuck” Gaffney.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 17, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Unity of Lawrence, where family and friends will gather to honor Bettie’s remarkable life and enduring legacy. Her bright light will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses.
Dearest Bettie. While your presence will be mightily missed, we know that your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to have contact with you in all the many ways you were in service to others.

Our world has lost a shining star! I got to know Bettie through Dr. Adams office many years ago. She gave the best hugs. Her kind spirit will live on in all she knew. Love you and miss you Bettie.
Bettie, Thank you for being such a dear friend over the years. You will always have a place in my heart and in my memories of wonderful times and special birthday dinners. Lots of love to Cathy and all the family during this difficult time.
I’m remembering and reliving so many wonderful conversations with Bettie when Adam’s Chiropractic was off 6th St. Our talks veered wildly between silly to profound, and always punctuated with Bettie’s vibrant laughter. Sending Light and Love to Cathy, Deena and all who loved Bettie!
Bettie had a smile that would light the room and anyone near her. She will be in our hearts!

You were and are a wise, bright light. Love always.
To Bettie’s family and the entire Unity family and friends. My condolences, love and prayers of comfort lifted for you. Bettie will always have a special place in my heart. Such an unique, loving kind creation, she was to me upon our initial meeting and the short time I worked with the children at Unity. Bettie always greeted me with her million dollar smile and hug, and always appreciated the invites, and her admiration to all mankind. Thank you for all you done, being you. Cathy, I pray your strength especially as well as to the daughters! Blessings I speak over you all!
Lovingly submitted,
