Ben Erwin

Memorial services for Ben R. Erwin, 66, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones, after battling colon cancer.

Ben was born on September 22, 1954 in Eudora, to Lee and Shirley Erwin. He attended School in Eudora and graduated in 1973.

Shortly after graduating he married Linda Hess. They later divorced.

In 1981 he married Vicci Evans. The decided to move to Wichita to make that their home with their daughter, Shabecca, where Ben worked for Beech Aircraft for a number of years.

Later he went to work for American National Insurance. He then, later in life, moved back to the Lawrence area where he went to work for Hy-Vee as “the grill master”.

Ben had many interests throughout his life; he loved to hunt, fish, playing pool and he enjoyed playing Santa for many years. But his biggest passion was cooking! He loved spending time with friends and family; playing cards, telling stories and sharing many meals.

His greatest joy in life was the birth of his daughter, Shabecca and his grandson, Clayton.

Ben is survived by his daughter, Shabecca (Jeff) of Eudora and his grandson, Clayton Goodell of Lawrence. He is also survived by his siblings, Jerry Daughtery of Lawrence, Mike (Sandy) Erwin of Lawrence, Frances Mayberry of Lawrence, Joe (Janet) Erwin of Eudora, Cindy Fllippo of Lawrence, Lonnie Erwin of Haysville; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lennie Erwin and a sister-in-law, Sharon Erwin.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora. Graveside service will follow at the Eudora Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at the home of Jeff & Shabecca, 1117 Fir Street in Eudora.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ben’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Elara Caring Hospice, or LMH Cancer Center and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    I worked with Ben at Hy-Vee in West Des Moines IOWA and will never forget him! I have a picture of myself and a coworker posing with him as Santa. So many good things to say about this man! He gave me his chicken and noodles recipe but never tasted like his! What a wonderful soul❤️
    Ben you tell your stories and cook up there in Heaven all pain free!!! I will see you again someday my friend. Love you❤️

    You are all in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry to hear of Ben’s passing. I will cherish the memories of Ben. I know he is at peace and no longer in pain. I Pray God will wrap his loving arms around you all at this time..
