Barbara W. Miller

Barbara Winifred Miller went to her eternal rest on December 17, 2017. Barbara was born on August 16, 1925, the child of Harold and Winifred Morley of Cleethorpes, South Humberside, England.

Barbara attended Teacher’s Training College until she enlisted in the Army Auxiliary Territorial Service in February, 1945. She earned a War Medal for her service during World War II. Barbara met Richard C. Miller when he was stationed in the U.K during the war, and emigrated to the U.S. to marry Richard in 1948.

They lived in Washington, D.C. and DeSoto, Kansas, but spent most of their lives in Lawrence, where Richard worked for the U.S. Post Office. Richard preceded Barbara in death on December 2, 2002.

Barbara is survived by five children (and their partners): Philip A. R. (“PAR”) Miller, San Diego, CA; Christopher R. P. Miller (Sherri Lagoski), Eudora, KS; Elizabeth B. A. Miller (Lindy Eakin), Lawrence, KS; Christine M. J. Standard (Greg), Kismet, KS; and Timothy J. J. Miller (Edith Revamonte), Olathe, KS, three grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as a sister, Audrey Eaves (UK), a brother, Brian Morley (UK), and a number of beloved British extended family members.

In addition to being a full-time homemaker raising five children, Barbara was an enthusiastic volunteer in many capacities, including a Brownie Scout troop leader, and served as the Choir Mother for the Trinity Episcopal Church Junior Choir. After her children were grown, she worked for the Visiting Nurses Association as a home health aide.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trinity Episcopal Church, Lawrence, or the Visiting Nurses Association and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

The Miller family would like to thank the staff of Medicalodges Eudora for the wonderful care that they provided to Barbara in the final years of her life.

A celebration of life memorial service for Barbara and Richard is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 10th & Vermont Street, Lawrence.
