A Memorial service for Susan A. Beers, 65, Lawrence will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Following the service a celebration of Sue’s life will take place at 6 p.m. at El Mezcal 804 Iowa in Lawrence. Private inurnment will take place at Clinton Cemetery. She died January 25, 2012 at her home with her husband and family by her side.
She was born on May 14, 1946 in Wilmington, Delaware the daughter of John William and Lois (Davis) Allen.
Susan committed her life to the service of others as a social worker for The Salvation Army, Eckan, and Community Living Opportunities.
She married Lyle Beers, her soul mate on May 8, 1965 in Lawrence. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Amy and husband, Dan, Angela and husband, Paul, Jennifer; one son, Timothy and wife, Lindsay; three brothers, Dudley, Bill and David; grandchildren, Allison, Sydney, Claire, Dylan, Jake and Zachary. She will also be missed by her two beloved kitties, Tiger and Lily.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to CLO and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Sue was a mother to all of us with her sage advice, warm smile and a hug that went on forever. The world lost an amazing woman yesterday, she filled a room with a heart bigger than the universe. She will live forever in our hearts and memories but there will be an enormous hole here without her. My heart, prayers and thoughts go out to her family, friends and all those that knew her.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I am proud that I got to know Sue. Enjoyed her very much as being my teacher at church. God Bless you all.
What a wonderful, genuine, loving lady! She was always there when you needed a hug, advice or just to talk. When I think about her I smile. Memories of our years working together at CLO simply warms my heart. Those times will always be on my list of favorite things. She will be missed, but always loved.

I was deeply saddened to read about Sue passing in todays paper. Sue was my second mother for 8 years and I loved her like one. My heart goes out to the whole family.

I am so sorry for your loss. My memories of all of you go so far back, to her Salvation Army days. I think of Sue as so full of love for people, hopefulness, and fun. We went through some hard times together, and some silly times together… like the Social Services Workers Party picnic in Burcham Park, back in the day. Not a day goes by that I don’t utilize some aspect of the things I was taught by Sue. She was an incredible lady with a wealth of knowledge and I’m so grateful that I was able to learn from her for a short time. My prayers are with Lyle, Amy, and the rest of the family.
How blessed are we for having known Sue. She was a mentor, loving friend and someone you knew would always have time to hear your story. She has a place in my heart, for sure. We are thinking of you all as you remember her.
