Ross Wulfkuhle

 

A memorial service for Ross E. Wulfkuhle, 94, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Lawrence.  Private inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.  He died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Pioneer Ridge.

He was born on August 27, 1915 in Stull, KS, the son of William F. and Mildred Gress Wulfkuhle.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Aleutian Islands and India.

He was a farmer and stockman. He also worked for 34 years in the Audio/Visual Department at the University of Kansas, retiring in 1979.

Mr. Wulfkuhle was a member of First Christian Church, where he formerly served as a deacon.  He was a Past Commander of Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 of the American Legion.     
He was a member of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and served as a chair of the Agriculture Committee.  For many years, he was a community leader of the Kanwaka 4-H Club, a member of the Douglas County Fair Board, and helped organize the livestock auction at the Douglas County 4-H-FFA Fair.  He was a member of the Douglas County Retired Teachers Association.
 
He married Margaret Colman on March 7, 1943 in Lawrence, KS.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Linda and husband, Guido Cecchini, Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Virginia Wulfkuhle, Topeka, and a brother, George Wulfkuhle of Albuquerque, NM.

The family will greet friends from 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorial contributions to First Christian Church Food Pantry or to other community agency food banks and sent in care of the mortuary.
