Robert Davis

Funeral services for Robert Davis, 63, Lawrence will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010.  Interment will be held at. 9 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2010 at Leavenworth National Cemetery.  He died January 9, 2009 at his home.

He was born on March 5, 1946 in Belle, Tennessee the son of Pauline Davis. 

He lived in Tennessee until the age of 3 when he moved with his mother to Alton, Illinois where he attended the Alton Public School District.

Robert enlisted into the U.S. Army in December 1965, where he served in Co. A 3d Bn 11th Infantry Fifth U.S. Army until December 1967.  He was then transferred to USAR Control Group until December 1971.  He received the National Defense Service Medal while enlisted and his specialties were Lt. Weapons and Infantryman.

Robert married Martha West on June 19, 1977 in Alton, Illinois at Brown Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C ., where they lived until moving to Lawrence, Kansas in 1996.  Robert enjoyed shooting pool, and watching the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and Smackdown.  His favorite teams were the St. Louis Rams (NFL), and the St. Louis Cardinals (MLB).  He enjoyed singing and listening to the blues and gospel.  He was also a faithful member of Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Kevil D. Ellison, Sr.
 
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Martha Davis of Lawrence, KS. His Sister, Shirley Bryant, Alton, IL.   Three sons, Michael Davis of California; Robert Davis II, Patrick Davis, both of Lawrence.  Three step-sons, Eric Moore of New York; Willie West and Paul Franklin, both of Lawrence.  Two step-daughters Catina Franklin, and Yolanda Franklin, both of Lawrence.  One Nephew Wayne Bryant of St. Louis, MO.  Two nieces Audra Bryant of Oklahoma, and Marcy Bryant of Texas.  Two special cousins Linda Reed of Alton, IL, and Clara J. Moore of Kalamazoo, MI.  Twenty-seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter due in February. 

Preceding him in death is his mother Pauline Davis, two aunts Nola Reed and Francis Davis, a cousin Patrick Reed, and one great grandson, Josiah Lee Nance.

The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the Mortuary.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his name to Robert Davis Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
