Robert “Bob” Harrison

Funeral services for Robert P. “Bob” Harrison, 95, Lawrence, KS will be held at 11 a.m.  Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.  Rev. Dr. Peter Luckey will be the officiant.  He died December 7, 2011 at his home.
He was born on June 24, 1916 in St. Louis, MO, the son of George B. and Florence (McManus) Harrison.  
 
He lived in Lawrence since moving here from New York in 1934 to attend the University of Kansas. 
 
Bob was a former real estate broker and owned The Gill Real Estate and Insurance Agency from 1952 – 1993.  He was a former owner and real estate developer of properties in Kansas and Hawaii.                          
 
Bob was a 1938 graduate from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Geology. He was a member of the Noon Kiwanis Club in Lawrence, a former member of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, a former member and Past President of the Lawrence Board of Realtors, and a former member and Past President of the Lawrence Board of Independent Insurance Agents. He was also a 61 year member of the Lawrence Masonic Lodge #6 A.F. & A.M.
 
He married Pauline Gill on July 28, 1938 in Missouri.  She preceded him in death January 12, 1999.   
 
Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Jean “Beth” Harrison, of Lawrence.  He was also recently preceded in death by his son, Philip Gill “Phil” Harrison on June 29, 2011.

He will lie in state from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his name to Douglas County Community Foundation or to the Douglas County Historical Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Bob was a great civic leader who brought civility to the rough and tumble world of real estate. His humanity and kind good humor will be missed.
