Richard Smith

 

Funeral services for Richard Harry Smith, 71, Lawrence will be held 1 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  Burial will follow at   Maple Grove Cemetery in Lecompton, KS with Military Honors.  He died December 12, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
 
Richard was born on February 1, 1940 in Lecompton, Kansas the son of Joseph and Rose (Parrish) Smith.   
 
Richard worked for Allen Press and was a fork lift operator for K-Mart Distribution Center.  He served in the U.S. Navy for 29 years.  He was a lifetime member of the Lecompton Historical Society.  
 
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Campbell, and husband, Jack, Lawrence, Kristi Quist, and husband, Mitch Holloway, Grain Valley, Missouri; son, Tracy Smith, and wife, Julie, Wellsville, KS; one brother, William Smith, and wife, Dorothy; two sisters, Virginia Allen and Betty Mitchell, and husband, Michael.  
 
The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  
 
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to The United States Navy Memorial and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    We are Richard’s neighbors.
    Richard was a really great guy. He went out of his way to welcome us to the neighborhood and congratulate us on the recent birth of our daughter.
    He will be missed.

    Hi Mari – I would definitely remmecond it, but I would probably wait until you don’t have a lot of other stuff on or you might get distracted!Hi Andi, I’m actually quite surprised by how well stocked my library is – I had stayed away from so long thinking it wouldn’t be that good so I’m glad I’ve found it now.Hi Amanda, I completely understand where your husband is coming from – I might need to get my partner to hide the book somewhere today so it doesn’t distract me from my work! I’m looking forward to reading The Likeness when I finish this one.
