Pauline Mellies

Graveside services for Pauline A. Mellies, 81, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Shawnee Center Cemetery in Wakarusa, KS.  She died on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence.

Pauline was born on August 28, 1930 in Dayton, OH the daughter of Paul Keezle and Alma (Karns) Moneymaker.

She attended schools and graduated from high school in Dayton, OH.

She was a clerk typist at Patterson Air Force base, in Dayton, OH from 1948 – 1952 and then worked for Pflaum Publishing Company prior to moving to Lawrence in 1966. 

She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women – Mary Circle and had previously been secretary, Betty Washington Chapter, NSDAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) where she was a past treasurer from 1989 – 2001.  She was also a member of the Augusta County Historical Society in Staunton, VA, Cumberland Historical Society in Cumberland, VA, and the Virginia Genealogical Society. She also volunteered at the Helen Osma Room at the Lawrence Public Library.

She married Elmer Vyrl Mellies on March 16, 1957 in Miami, OK.  He preceded her in death September 2, 2002. 

Survivors include one brother-in-law, Richard Mellies, Auburn, KS.  

The family will greet friends on Friday from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the mortuary. 

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Betty Washington Chapter, NSDAR or Central United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Pauline was an extremely valued member of our DAR chapter. Even though it has been awhile since she was able to attend meetings her contributions during the time she was active are still remembered.
