I wish I would have been able to meet Nate. From all the stories Shelagh has told over the years I feel like he was apart of my life. The stories of giving, love, and selflessness inspires me daily. He was given the opportunity to create a wonderful being and to not stop there, but to see beauty in all children. That is such a great gift. I am so proud to know of him. He will be missed from this world but because he touched so many we have not lost him.

I met Nate and Jan when they were house parents at The Shelter, Inc., in Lawrence and I was volunteering there in the 1980’s. I would take one or two kids out with me on day trips and activities. I remember what a good job Nate and Jan did with the kids and how much the kids respected them. Nate had been there and they knew it. He will be missed. He made a difference.

Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your dear loved one. May you find comfort and hope in the Bible’s promise, “Your dead ones will live. . . . They will rise up.” –Isaiah 26:19 The Bible teaches that man was not created by God to die, but death came about as a result of sin, way back in the Garden of Eden. –Romans 5:12. So even though death has afflicted mankind down to our day, God promises to undo the effects of death and even do away with death itself. Please read this for yourself at Revelation 21:3, 4. What a wonderful hope is presented in God’s Word. . . being able to live right here on earth in paradisaic conditions with our loved ones beside us. –Psalms 37:29 It is our hope that reading these scriptures will comfort you during this time of loss.
