Melvin Kaufman

Funeral service for Melvin D. Kaufman, 77, Lawrence, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors. 

He died on June 11, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Kaufman was born March 5, 1932, in Haddam, Kansas, the son of Robert W. and Emma Laura Cook Kaufman.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. 

Mr. Kaufman formerly owned Kaufman Insurance Agency and was an insurance agent.  He was a former Lawrence firefighter and retired due to an injury from fighting a fire. 

He was a life member of the V.F.W. Alford-Clarke Post #852 and a member of the Dorsey Liberty Post #14—American Legion.

He married Beryl McAdam on December 8, 1956, in Lawrence, Kansas.  She survives of the home. 

Other survivors include two sons, Ralph A., Lawrence, and Wayne A. and wife, Lynnea, Lawrence; two sisters, Eleanor Shorney, Belleville, KS, and Donna R. Wiley, Lawrence; two grandsons,  Allen Burkart and Thomas Kaufman; and seven nephews and five nieces.

The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Alford-Clark Post #852 V.F.W.  or to Trinity Lutheran Church and sent in care of the mortuary.
