Maxine Gerstenberger

Funeral services for Maxine L. Gerstenberger, 84, Eudora, KS, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora.  Burial will follow at Eudora Cemetery in Eudora, KS.  She died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Maxine was born on August 15, 1927 in Eudora, KS the daughter of Amos and Leoti Milburn Westerhouse.

She was a homemaker in her later years. Earlier, she had several secretarial positions and then retired as a secretary for the District Superintendant of the United Methodist Church in Hutchinson, KS.

She was a member of the Eudora United Methodist Church in Eudora.  She enjoyed painting, working in her rose garden, and was an avid KU basketball fan.

She married Arvon Gale Gerstenberger on June 20, 1948 in Captain’s Creek Methodist Church, Eudora.  He preceded her in death December 26, 1984. 

Survivors include one son, Gregory Gale Gerstenberger, of the home; one daughter, Patricia Ann Gerstenberger, Denton, KS; three grandchildren (Christopher Gale Gerstenberger, David Philip Rumbaoa, and Joshua Dan Gerstenberger; one sister, Arlene Lawson, Eudora; and her twin brother, Eugene A. Westerhouse, Eudora.

The family will greet friends on Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Eudora United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    She will be greatly missed. She was a great grandmother and a very loving sweet person. It will be hard going to her house without her there. No more cinnamon rolls or chocolate chip cookies. She is home in heaven now. Love you grandma!

    I remember having dinner at Maxine & Gale’s home in Hutchinson in the mid ’70’s. She was a wonderful cook and someone who was very easy to like.

    I was sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I just found out about it today. She was a wonderful lady and I am glad I was able to know her again recently. I am so sorry I missed her services.
